It’s sometimes the simple things that yield the greatest pleasure.

I shot a gig from the crowd the other week. The camera was a 35mm SLR. A Canon EOS 100 if you must know. It cost me nothing. It was the second time I had ever used the camera. I shot in black and white, because the previous ‘from the crowd’ gig I shot on film was colour roll. I was really disappointed with the results. That gig was shot using 800iso. Too grainy for me as well.

This gig was at Manchester Academy 3 and the band in question. Sonic Boom 6. I gambled this time and shot 400iso. Figuring if the light was bad I could push process. Anyway, the light seemed OK so I just shot at 400iso.

I shot the pictures on full manual mode. I did this for a few reasons. The main one being that I have faith in my ability to read the light and set my camera right. I am used to medium format cameras with no auto available. Still, with all the changing lights I was nervous. The one thing I left on auto was the focusing. I started on manual, but I am used to Nikon. If you don’t know why that is a problem this is the reason. Everything is the opposite way around. So I stuck it on auto and took care of the rest manually.

I dropped the roll off at the Lomography store in Manchester (the cheapest place to process black and white prints) and asked for a hi def scan. Another gamble. If I had messed up the settings then I spent more money on an over or under exposed roll.

Anyways. Everything came up roses. Every picture came back good. I got 14 pictures I was really happy with. The rest are all fine. Just don’t have that certain something that makes them special.

My one day off this week. All I have done is scan Polaroid pictures to my PC using a shitty program that crashes after every scan. Once I have scanned them in I will do a quick edit in Photoshop to correct the weird colour my scanner gives them and crop them. All to be able to put up on a blog that no one reads!

Well, I nailed this day off didn’t I!
